There are few experiences in life that leave a truly lasting mark—events that become pivotal benchmarks in time. For those living on the Gulf Coast, Hurricane Katrina was one such event. The phrase “before the storm” still carries a profound meaning, immediately bringing to mind the days before August 29, 2005.

Today marks the 19th anniversary of Katrina’s landfall. While the Gulf Coast has made remarkable strides in its recovery, the scars—both visible and invisible—are still felt deeply by many.
