Business Backup and Disaster Reccovery

Recent DarkSide ransomware attacks have increased in both scope and impact. These attacks aren’t just targeting large organizations like those suffering from Electronic Medical Record breaches; they’re also hitting small businesses right here in Baldwin County, causing significant disruption. Business Backup and Disaster Recovery has become a necessity!

According to Forbes.com 60% of small companies go out of business within six months of falling victim to a ransomware attack due to the devastating financial and operational impacts. Don’t become a statistic!

A 3-2-1 backup strategy has long been the industry standard for business backup and disaster recovery. As noted by IDC, to avoid becoming the next victim of ransomware, IT teams should adopt at least a 3-2-1-1 backup plan. This means having:

  • 3 copies of your data
  • 2 different storage mediums
  • 1 copy stored offsite

Traditionally, this strategy involves keeping a local backup on an external drive and copying data to the cloud. While the 3-2-1 strategy covers most disaster scenarios, it’s not foolproof.

But what if…?

What if a malicious actor, like a DarkSide attacker, specifically targets your business backup? With the rise of cryptoware and ransomware, relying solely on this approach might not be enough.

If your data is compromised before your scheduled backup and the backup process isn’t stopped, your backups could be infected—or worse—destroyed.

To guard against this, you need isolated storage.

At Baychester Associates, we’ve integrated isolated storage into our disaster recovery philosophy with our 4-2-1-1 Business Backup and Data Recovery System.

Here’s how it works:
  • 4 complete and protected copies of your data:
  • 2 copies on separate mediums
  • 1 copy in our offsite backup repository
  • 1 copy in an isolated partition

Each day, the 4-2-1-1 Business Backup and Disaster Recovery System saves all data to a local network-attached storage device (NAS). Immediately, a copy of that data is sent to our offsite backup repository. Additionally, on a pre-established archive schedule, the data is securely copied to an isolated partition on the NAS.
